Hi there!
Part the first: INTRO!
My name's jame, herp derp
I'm jame and I'm one of the mods for
market_roulette.
About three years ago, things were pretty dire for me financially. I got myself together and got out of debt earlier this year. I also started up a community to share things I had learned about frugal living and making your financial goals--It's called
actyourwage.
One of the things I've learned in the process is that beyond a certain point, having your money sitting there not doing a lot is wasteful. I want to learn more about is investing.
market_roulette is a chance to both learn and have a hell of a lot of fun in the process!
I will be playing along with you, but I'll recuse myself from the competition aspect of it.
I'm Australian, so I'll be around at different hours to
seperis. It also means that you get bonus unexpected u's in places! And that you will never convince me that the proper pronunciation of z is zee rather than zed.
Your best bet of contacting me is email:
jamethiel dot bane at gmail dot com
And sometimes I'm logged in on gchat. Feel free to give me a wave if you have any questions or queries.
Later on, we'll be contactable by a mod email account, which we'll give you the details to.
Part two: We know we shouldn't have to tell you not to behave like a wild squirrel brought indoors, but I'm apessimist realist by nature and well-defined guidelines are everybody's friend.
Before we get up and running, we just thought it would be a good idea to set down a few rules of behaviour for the comm.
Rule number 1 is: No trolling or spam
Do I really need to explain this?
Rule 2 is: Play nice.
Ok. This can be a competition if people want to compete. Some degree of trash talk can be expected. But keep it within the bounds of human decency, yeah?
Keep in mind that some people are here just to learn more about the share market. If someone's upset or offended, you back off and apologise. The corollary to that is: ASSUME GOOD WILL. Maybe you've had a shitty day and you just can't cope with it today. Maybe you just don't want to do the competition part of it at all. People aren't mind-readers and if it all goes a step to far andsomeone loses an eye someone says "Your Mum" you need to tell them that they've stepped over a line.
You're all adults. If people persist after you've told them to step off, get a mod. That's what we're here for.
(Just as a suggestion, if you're really not wanting to participate in the competition aspect of it, maybe say so in your introduction post. I intend to inform you all that I'm a delicate flower and you should treat me gently. No, really. *bats eyelashes*)
Rule 3 is: Absolutely no attempt to sell stuff
We are not playing with real money. If you want to tell people about great websites you read, or good analysis or whatever, well and good. If you attempt to convince someone to actually part with their cash to sign up for a service or whatever, you are banned with extreme prejudice.
And we'll probably enjoy it as well.
(There is a difference between "Sign up for this!" and "I found this product was good, but it does cost money".)
Rule 4 is: Don't be an arsehole
There will inevitably be some clever clogs who will do something that makes us mods go "Really? REALLY?!?" and when questioned on it will go "BUT IT ISN'T AGAINST THE RULES!"
Guess what? We are drunk on power and we don't care. If you're an arsehole, we'll ban you.
Rule 5 is: Have fun!
That is what we're here for. It's educational. It's competitive. YOU WILL HAVE FUN IF WE TELL YOU TO.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
If there is a situation that isn't covered by the rules, the mods will consider it on a case by case basis. Needless to say, your mods are here for all questions, concerns, queries, difficulties and handholding.
Part the third: POLL FOR GREAT SCIENCE
Could all members please contribute to this poll
As always, if you have any concerns or queries, please either leave a comment, or (if you don't want it to be public) email myself or
