[personal profile] jamethiel posting in [community profile] market_roulette
This is the Monday post for the week of 9th of May to 15th of May

Both [personal profile] seperis  and I have had work committments. If anything has slipped through the cracks, please comment here to let us know.

Reminders

1.) May transaction fees are $4 for an automatic transaction and $7 for a real time transaction.

2.) You can buy and sell ETFs and Mutual Funds.

3.) We're in the process of updating spreadsheets. If you have problems, email one of us to check on it.

4.) When you are buying, please list the stock you are buying IN ITS ORIGINAL CURRENCY, not your own home currency. PUT ONLY NUMBERS IN THOSE BOXES. Use the boxes to declare currency for declaring currency. With only numbers, I can automate the math easier.

Transaction Log

We're still using the original, though I've shortened it to one page.

New Things

You are free to buy from any stock exchange in the world starting March 1st; everyone is now familiar with how this works, so I'm letting you run wild. There's a list in everyone's spreadsheet that I'll be updating as I add more. Some aren't normally accessible to westerners, some aren't accessible period, but many are, and Market Roulette is God's Stockbroker; we can get you anything.

Staring July 1st, if you buy from a market that is not one of the above or your local market, an international fee will be assessed at a rate of an additional USD$5.00 per transaction. That'll be out halfway point and when the community as a whole will be asked, encouraged, and required to input on what they like, don't like, and what they want changed.

New Markets

Full list of stock exchanges of the world, sort of.

List of African Stock Exchanges - some of these for reasons beyond my understanding were removed from the main list.

List of Mideast Stock Exchanges - same thing as above.

List of East Asian Stock Exchanges

List of South Asian Stock Exchanges

List of European Stock Exchanges

List of American Stock Exchanges - this includes Central and South America and the Caribbean nations.

List of Market Opening Times

More on Markets

I'm encouraging everyone to go look at the African markets, especially Nigeria and South Africa, and poke around the Middle East as well as the smaller emerging markets in the South Asia and consider the Caribbean and island nations. Get familiar with their companies and their interests. If you want to buy from them, send me the website so I can create a script for you to use for updating.

This is especially important with South Africa trying to build a Pan-African exchange, which could and will be a strong rival for the western markets. Australia's negotiation with Singapore is still in negotiations, but there are some interesting economic things happening in the Middle East now, especially with the revolution in Egypt and the continuing protests going on in Yemen, Syria, Libya, and Pakistan, and with Tunisia's new government.

These things aren't just political; Tunisia's revolution was based on the state of the economy and the lack of jobs as much as anything else. The economic will almost always give the best forecast of the political, so familiarity with the markets, the prices, what's doing well, will tell you not only the health of the country's economy, but the feel of the people.

It can't tell anyone everything; RL is far more complex. But it can and does give a glimpse of what's going on and where and how. When you buy and sell, note countries with dictatorships, US-backed or no, countries with constitutional or popular monarchies, and casually check poverty levels and colonial history if you have a chance; there is high correlation. Democracy is a catch phrase that covers a lot of sins; what you look for are governments that are sensitive and responsive to the will of the people.

Dividends

[personal profile] seperis  finished the script to pull dividend information from Businessweek and Yahoo. It will be added to the new spreadsheets. It's nifty!

Important Dates

July 1 - international fees will be assessed when buying outside the top ten or your local markets. More on this later.

I need to pass on this month. I apologize for leaving it so late in the month but my internet has been on the blink for almost a week now. I don't remember if it's been addressed, and I haven't been able to check, but if we skip a month, do we forfeit the $150 or does it roll over into the next month? Also, if we do participate, but don't use the entire $150, does that money roll over or is it forfeit?

okay, ummm while you are getting Seperis to fix things for me *blush*
I just did a transaction then realised I had miscalculated how many I could buy so re-did it, but obviously shouldn't have done it that way as its now in twice, so I have way to many shares, oops! Also its showing the current price wrong (should be 2.24, its showing as 0.78) *and* just to further complicate it - what I have bought is more shares of something I already own, but its gone onto a new line, dunno if it was supposed to do that or add in to the existing line? That may have been as I uses capitol letters the first time and not the second??
Sorry about this!!!

ahh actually, just had a look and everything is not fixed :(
On my summary page - the investment column, everthing is 0 except OZL. The PPS column is completely empty. The gain/loss in % column everything except OZL says #DIV/0! Further down in the Funds section my amounts invested for May, June (and maybe April, I cant remember) are not right. I have one of those orange triangles in the corner of the ticker column, but ctrl-r is not making any difference.
So ummm, I'm afraid its even worse than before, lol!

Yay thankyou, looks like you guys have fixed up all the complicated stuff :D
Still one teeny tiny glitch - on my summary page the shares I bought in June are there in my portfolio, but the money I spent has not gone in the Funds section further down. I went into the month page to see if I could fix it myself, and I do have a couple of those little orange triangles in the corners that say to press control-R, but I did that and nothing happened :(
Other than that its all looking good though! :D

I still can't update my spreadsheet with new transactions from the main log. It gives me the error "TypeError: Cannot call method "getSheetByName" of undefined" I've tried CTRL-R as well and no dice, so my May transaction isn't recorded in my own spreadsheet. I had this problem in April as well. [personal profile] seperis fixed it at that point - is there a workaround I can use or do I need to contact you guys every time I log a transaction?

Woot! She is! An insanely busy rockstar.

One minor blip is now my purchase of ZIP-Q from April isn't showing up in my summary. (It's in the transaction log in lowercase, would that be the problem?)

I must say I very much admire the both of you. I wouldn't try playing around with google docs and its mess of scripts if you paid me.
